Iodine in Gelagen: What 42 mcg Means
Gelagen lists iodine at 42 mcg, about 28 percent of the 150 mcg Daily Value if the amount is per two gummies. The thyroid uses iodine to make its hormones. Most people in the US get enough from iodized salt and dairy. Thyroid patients should ask first, since too much or too little can matter.

Why does the body need iodine?
The thyroid gland builds its hormones from it, and those hormones guide metabolism, growth and brain development (NIH ODS, Iodine). A severe shortage causes goiter and, in pregnancy, harms the baby. Iodized salt largely solved this problem in the US.
How much is 42 mcg?
A little over a quarter of the Daily Value, and about 4 percent of the adult upper limit of 1,100 mcg. It is a small top-up. People who avoid dairy, eggs, fish and iodized salt may benefit more than most.
Who should be careful?
People with thyroid disease or on thyroid medicine, who may be sensitive to changes in iodine, even small ones. Others include those with a history of thyroid surgery. If you are one of them, show your clinician the label (NIH ODS, Iodine).

See packsHow does it connect to biotin?
Separately, Gelagen's biotin can distort thyroid blood tests, as the lab test page explains. A thyroid result that looks odd may then have more than one cause, and the clinician can only weigh that if told about both. So thyroid patients have two reasons to raise the gummies with the clinician: the iodine itself and the test problem.
