Vitamins A, C and E in Gelagen: Amounts, %DV and Cautions
Gelagen lists vitamin A as retinyl acetate at 630 mcg (70% of the Daily Value if per two gummies), vitamin C at 20 mg (22%) and vitamin E at 7.4 mg (49%). All sit below their upper limits. Vitamin C is needed to make collagen in the body, but 20 mg is about a fifth of a Daily Value, not a collagen dose.

The numbers01
How much vitamin A, C and E is in Gelagen?
Vitamin A is 630 mcg, vitamin C is 20 mg and vitamin E is 7.4 mg, which is 70%, 22% and 49% of their Daily Values under reading A.
These three are often grouped as antioxidant-type vitamins, but they do different jobs and have very different limits. The tables show each beside the NIH fact sheets, and the second reading doubles every figure.
| Name in the product sheet | Vitamin A (as retinyl acetate) |
|---|---|
| Form | retinyl acetate |
| Amount | 630 mcg |
| FDA Daily Value | 900 mcg RAE |
| %DV if per 2 gummies | 70.0% |
| %DV if per gummy (2 gummies) | 140.0% |
| Adult upper limit | 3,000 mcg RAE a day (preformed vitamin A, adults) |
| What the sources say | NIH ODS describes no skin function beyond the effects of too much; AAD calls vitamin A 'said to help reduce signs of aging' |
| Sold for | Sold for skin |
| Main caution | Above the upper limit, preformed vitamin A can cause birth defects (NIH ODS). The product sheet's 630 mcg is below the limit; pregnant women should still ask first. |
| Name in the product sheet | Vitamin C (as ascorbic acid) |
|---|---|
| Form | ascorbic acid |
| Amount | 20 mg |
| FDA Daily Value | 90 mg |
| %DV if per 2 gummies | 22.2% |
| %DV if per gummy (2 gummies) | 44.4% |
| Adult upper limit | 2,000 mg a day (adults) |
| What the sources say | NIH ODS: required for collagen biosynthesis; scurvy causes poor wound healing. A supplement of 20 mg is far below the 75-90 mg adult RDA |
| Sold for | Sold for skin |
| Main caution | No problem expected at 20 mg; the upper limit is 2,000 mg (NIH ODS). |
| Name in the product sheet | Vitamin E (as d-alpha tocopheryl acetate) |
|---|---|
| Form | d-alpha tocopheryl acetate |
| Amount | 7.4 mg |
| FDA Daily Value | 15 mg alpha-tocopherol |
| %DV if per 2 gummies | 49.3% |
| %DV if per gummy (2 gummies) | 98.7% |
| Adult upper limit | 1,000 mg a day (adults) |
| What the sources say | AAD: an antioxidant that may reduce inflammation; NIH ODS lists no skin statement |
| Sold for | Sold for skin |
| Main caution | NIH ODS: large amounts (probably above 400 IU a day) may raise bleeding risk with blood thinners. 7.4 mg is far below that. |
Vitamin A02
Is the vitamin A in Gelagen safe in pregnancy?
Ask a clinician first: Gelagen's vitamin A is retinyl acetate, a preformed vitamin A, and NIH says too much preformed vitamin A during pregnancy can cause birth defects (NIH ODS, Vitamin A).
The 630 mcg listed is below the 3,000 mcg upper limit for adults, and even doubled it is 1,260 mcg. The care point is addition. A prenatal vitamin often holds vitamin A as well, and so can a multivitamin or a liver-based food. Three sources adding together can pass the limit without anyone intending it. NIH notes that people who combine a multivitamin with other supplements can exceed limits for vitamin A and zinc (NIH ODS, Multivitamin/mineral).
A pregnant woman, or a woman who may become pregnant, should add up her vitamin A across every product and ask her obstetrician before adding Gelagen.
Vitamin C03
Does vitamin C in Gelagen make collagen?
Vitamin C is required for the body to make collagen, but 20 mg of it does not mean Gelagen builds more collagen than you already have.
NIH says vitamin C is required for collagen biosynthesis, and that a serious shortage, called scurvy, causes poor wound healing (NIH ODS, Vitamin C). That is a deficiency story. Most people already eat well above the point where collagen production is limited by vitamin C. The NIH recommended intake is 90 mg for men and 75 mg for women, and Gelagen's 20 mg is a fraction of that. There is no collagen on the product sheet to be boosted.

Does vitamin E interact with blood thinners?
Possibly: NIH says high doses of vitamin E may increase bleeding risk in people who take anticoagulants, though Gelagen's 7.4 mg is half the Daily Value (NIH ODS, Vitamin E).
The upper limit is 1,000 mg a day, so 7.4 mg is nowhere near it. Even so, anyone who takes warfarin or another blood thinner should show the list to a pharmacist. The point is not that Gelagen is dangerous. It is that a vitamin in a gummy still counts as a vitamin.
Never stop a blood thinner or any other prescription because of a supplement. Call 911 for swelling of the face or throat or trouble breathing after taking a gummy.
FAQ05
Gelagen questions people ask
Is vitamin A in Gelagen retinol or beta carotene?
The product sheet gives retinyl acetate, which is preformed vitamin A like retinol. Beta carotene is a different, plant-based form. Preformed vitamin A has an upper limit and a pregnancy caution; beta carotene from food does not carry the same birth-defect warning.
How much vitamin C do adults need?
NIH lists a recommended intake of 90 mg a day for men and 75 mg for women, with an upper limit of 2,000 mg. Gelagen's 20 mg is a small part of that, and most people reach their need through fruit and vegetables (NIH ODS, Vitamin C).
What form of vitamin E is in Gelagen?
The product sheet lists d-alpha tocopheryl acetate, the natural-source ester of alpha-tocopherol. The Daily Value of 15 mg is stated as alpha-tocopherol, so we compare on that basis. If your jar prints a different unit, our percentage would shift.
Can vitamins A, C and E be taken together?
They are routinely combined in multivitamins, and Gelagen's amounts are modest. Care points are pregnancy for vitamin A and blood thinners for vitamin E. Ask a pharmacist to check your own list rather than relying on a general answer.
Do antioxidants like vitamin E make skin younger?
We do not make that claim, and our sources do not support it for Gelagen. Vitamin E is an antioxidant in lab terms. Whether a vitamin E pill changes the look of skin is a separate question that the AAD does not answer in favor of supplements (AAD, Supplements for your skin).
Is 630 mcg of vitamin A too much?
No, it is 70% of the 900 mcg Daily Value and about 21% of the 3,000 mcg upper limit. It becomes a concern only when added to other sources, and especially in pregnancy.
