Vitamin A in Gelagen: What 630 mcg Means
Gelagen lists vitamin A as retinyl acetate at 630 mcg. If that is per two gummies it is about 70 percent of the Daily Value, and about a fifth of the adult upper limit of 3,000 mcg. The care points are pregnancy, retinoid medicines and adding up other products.

What does vitamin A do?
It supports vision, immune function and the normal growth of skin and other tissues (NIH ODS, Vitamin A). Deficiency is uncommon in the US. Retinyl acetate is a preformed type, which acts like retinol. This is the type with an upper limit.
What does 630 mcg mean?
The Daily Value is 900 mcg, so 630 is 70 percent. If the listed amount is per gummy, a day's dose is 1,260 mcg, about 140 percent of the Daily Value and still under the 3,000 mcg limit. Whether the unit is RAE or IU is something to confirm on the jar.
Who should be careful?
Pregnant women, people taking retinoid drugs for skin, people with liver disease and heavy drinkers. Smokers should not take high-dose beta-carotene, which is a different form. If you take a multivitamin as well, total the retinol.

FAQ01
Gelagen questions people ask
Is retinyl acetate the same as retinol?
It is a closely related ester that the body converts to retinol, which is why it counts as preformed vitamin A.
Can vitamin A cause hair loss?
Excess vitamin A has been linked to hair loss in the sources we read, which is another reason to stay under the limit.
Does vitamin A help skin?
It is needed for normal skin growth. Added amounts help only when intake is low, and no study of Gelagen shows a skin effect.
What is the upper limit for vitamin A?
For adults NIH sets 3,000 mcg of preformed vitamin A a day from food and supplements together. Beta-carotene from plants is counted differently.
