Vitamin E in Gelagen: What 7.4 mg Means
Gelagen lists vitamin E as d-alpha tocopheryl acetate at 7.4 mg, which is about 49 percent of the 15 mg Daily Value if the amount is per two gummies. The unit needs checking on the jar. The care point is blood thinners, because high doses of vitamin E can add to their effect.

What does vitamin E do?
It is a fat-soluble antioxidant that protects cell membranes and supports the immune system (NIH ODS, Vitamin E). Deficiency is rare and mostly seen with fat absorption disorders. Food sources include nuts, seeds and plant oils, so many people get most of what they need from the diet.
What does 7.4 mg mean?
The Daily Value is 15 mg of alpha-tocopherol. If the label unit is mg alpha-tocopherol, 7.4 mg is 49 percent. If it is mg of the tocopheryl acetate itself, the active amount is a little less. That is the unit question to settle from the jar. The upper limit is 1,000 mg, far above.
What about skin?
Vitamin E appears in many skin products, which makes shoppers assume pills work too. The sources we read do not show that a supplement at this amount changes healthy skin. We make no such claim for the gummies.

See packsWho should be careful?
People on blood thinners such as warfarin, and people facing surgery. NIH notes that high-dose vitamin E may increase bleeding risk (NIH ODS, Vitamin E). At this amount the concern is small, but your pharmacist should know. See the vitamins A, C and E page.

FAQ01
Gelagen questions people ask
Is the vitamin E in Gelagen natural or synthetic?
The list says d-alpha tocopheryl acetate, which is the natural-source form. The d prefix marks it.
Can vitamin E cause problems?
In large doses it can raise bleeding risk. Gelagen's amount is modest, but check with a pharmacist if you take a blood thinner.
Does vitamin E affect lab tests?
Not in the sources we read. Biotin is the one that does.
How much vitamin E is in a handful of almonds?
About 7 mg in an ounce, so the gummy's amount is similar to a small handful.
